Mavens in the house:
Andrew McGivern @podcasthero
Bob Garlick @bobgarlick
Marcel Lapointe Retired From the Internet
Bonnie Sainsbury @bonniesainsbury
Margaret Reynolds @bc_insurancegal
Daviid Chick @gethatched
Dave Chick showed up with a bunch of cool mics to show us. He brought the Heil PR40 to use during this show. Mighty Quin and DJ Lefty were the only other guests to bring their own gear.
Andrew, Bonnie, and Bob talk about www.brotherandtwins.com and how it is number two in its category on top mommy blogs. Bonnie said Valerie is busy looking after three kids and is a very talented blogger as well.
Bob says just google him. He has ticked off all the other Bob Garlick’s out there because they are way down on page 5 on google.
Dave Chick is an audio producer, podcaster, sound engineer, etc. He has lately been picked up by Best Buy to produce content about their music equipment products. He talks all about that gig. Dave talks about Blue Microphones and how they are all over the map. They have the Snowball which is ok and have mics that are several thousand dollars.
Bonnie was named a top influencer by CEO Magazine a few weeks ago. Previously she was named a top influencer on two Forbes lists as well. She is also the co-producer of a couple of documentaries. Ken McGrath and Bonnie are writing a book on podcasting as well. She is writing the marketing part and Ken is writing the technical side.
We have a conversation about enhanced podcasts because Dave used to produce an “enhanced podcast”
Margaret is writing her fourth Kindle book. This one will be about online dating. She is also working on a top secret project with Bonnie. They will be announcing that venture soon. They might even be able to sponsor the bunker project. Cool!
Bonnie has an announcement: She is pro google and pro android and today Apple slipped to the number 2 most valuable company. Google is number 1 now.
Norm called in to say Samsung products aren’t very good but they have great marketing so it is all Flash over Substance.
We talk about our experience with Samsung products. Margaret and Bob love Samsung products. Andrew brings up that Samsung makes low-end phones as well. Bonnie is looking forward to the One Plus One.
Bob talks about how the TD Bank is giving away Samsung tablets. Norm called in to say that he thinks it is great that the banks are in tune with the masses. No more bank promo toasters or mixers.
Norm called in one more time… where are all these billionaire app creators coming from?
Other topics:
Beats being acquired by Apple (did go through)
Twitter was in talks with SoundCloud about acquiring the company (didn’t go through)
We talk about whether or not that would have been good for podcasters.
Questions that came up…
Is SoundCloud as good as Libsyn?
Is it difficult to move from one hosting company to another?
Why would SoundCloud be good for Twitter?
Now onto the feature content:
This week we talk about whether or not business owners should know much about Social Media when they hire a consultant or Social Media Manager? So how much should business owners know about social media?
Some great conversation ensued…
Listen to the show to find out what everyone has to say about that.
