The Bunker Project Show 58 Notes:

Bob makes a comment about chickens which makes some people wonder how he knows so much about chickens…

Link to the video – Social Media Week HERE when it comes out.

Raincoaster talks about how she did a cool product launch and recorded everything using just an iPhone a PC and a Mac Book. Down and Dirty Podcasting for Your Money By Designs new online launch.

Raincoaster said she would like to go back to Yellowknife if she lands a new client. Sounds like a cool opportunity for her… She talks a little about her experience in Yellownife over the last few months. Check out her blog to learn all about it… www.raincoaster.com???

Andrew brings up Wave Accounting… completely free online accounting software. Based in Canada… cool. They offer their services for free but they make money by mining your information and offering deals based on what your spending money on.

Some more technical problems… with our google plus hangout.

Margaret brings up some benefits to using Wave Accounting…
It is online, FREE and…

A cat joins us on Google +. Our first cat joins us on The Bunker Show on a Google +.
Kitty Sanshez exits stage left…

Bob talks about going shopping for a bra… ??? Andrew interrupts and gives a big shout out to Smith Sound… Marty over at smithsound.ca loaned Andrew an Electro Voice RE320 microphone which sounds pretty sweet!

More feedback problems with the google plus hangout… another person joins the hangout. Raincoaster suggests we do a show where we try and get as many trolls as possible to come on the show. She has a circle of trolls on g+. James (twisted_majic) says we should do a Troll Off where we pit one troll against another and the first one to cry loses… The Troll to end them all… A Troll to rule them all.

Raincoaster says she is being more picky on Google + and if someone isn’t interesting she doesn’t circle them. Bonnie brings up that Brian Clarke says the more people he has following him the more money he makes. Since he makes a ton of money she builds her networks as big as she can .

Raincoaster wonders if it is true… how many of those people does he make money from. James says it isn’t the number of people but the number of people that act on your content.

Bonnie says the more people you have the more engagement you get at different times instead of just a small few hour window.

Raincoaster uses different platforms for a variety of platforms.

Social Media is about lead generation for Bonnie.

We talk about the benefits of hootsuite.com.

James says to try and kill a pigeon with a rifle instead of a shotgun.
One shot at a time… Bob says what if you’re trying to kill a polar bear?

Ian tells a story about bear spray… and crack stash…

We finally get into facebook changes…

The profile changing to YOUR NAME in the top right corner.

James doesn’t like the status bar on the right-hand side… he doesn’t like seeing everyone’s updates right in your face all the time. It makes him feel dirty…
Ken says there is a switch on the bottom to hide the sidebar.
James doesn’t know where the facebook ads went.

Margaret doesn’t like being told which are the top stories… Andrew always liked to go to recent stories. Now you can customize the news feed by selecting how much you want to get from individuals and pages. Andrew likes having more control…

Bonnie likes the new facebook better…

Ken likes the new smart list (groups) which behave like google + circles.

Bonnie loves the subscribe button… and she is getting a ton of subscribers. She loves the asynchronous nature of it.

Bonnie asks if your not a company why would you bother with a personal fan page? There is no reason to anymore… Ken says a business fan page is completely different.

Bob asks Bonnie what makes Facebook smart lists better than Google +… She says she didn’t say that… she is the Google Girl.

Back to google +
We talk about the elimination of sparks.

James talks about hangouts with extras.
You can name hangouts, collaboration with notes and sketchpad and google docs.

It reminds Andrew of what Google Wave was supposed to be…

We get another person on the hangout but we get a feedback loop again. We talk about the glitch we are experiencing.

Bob doesn’t like everyone complaining about the new facebook.
We talk about how change is good…
Andrew makes a joke about bringing back the star tac.

James says facebook shouldn’t have to compete with google +.
We talk about the social networks of the past.

James says it is mainly the older generation using Google +.

James makes a general statement.

Ken talks about the show Connections from the UK.

Raincoaster has never really liked facebook but uses it because she needs to teach it. She is more of a Twitter and Google + person. She talks about how she got banned from G+ a couple times for using her username.

Raincoaster says people don’t protect their identity online anymore… instead they want to share. Ian says that the paranoia about the social networks having your information is bogus because the government has all your info anyway.

We talk about the tricks people use to get your passwords and usernames… and wonder how people are falling for them. Let’s go Phishing!

Ken tells a great story about a guy who bought an ad in the newspaper and asked people to send him a dollar… and 100 000 people did!

A few more interesting stories…

We talk about how Twitter Analytics is coming soon… and the Chevy Volt is available in Canada at $45 000 plus tax and no rebate in Canada. There is one per store. Ian test drove the Tesla and he said it was odd because it was extremely fast and completely quiet. 0 – 100 km in 3.5 seconds.

Andrew talks about the legislation that will require electric cars to make noise.

More car talk…

James steps out and comes back with a Rock Star. She has a band called “Under The Covers”… she might come back and sing for us another time!
