No separate digital recorder needed if you have the Tascam M1 Condenser Microphone adapter for iOS devices.

…at a reasonable price.

thetitle TASCAM’s iM2 turns the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into a high-quality stereo recorder. A pair of condenser microphones – the same high quality as TASCAM’s best-selling DR-series recorders – plugs into the dock connector of your Apple device. The microphones are adjustable over 180 degrees for the best sound placement.

The uni-directional elements are arranged in an AB pattern for detailed stereo imaging while capturing the ambience of your room. The iM2 contains its own microphone preamp and analog-to-digital converter for low noise and great audio quality. Unlike mics that use the built-in iPhone preamp, the iM2 can handle up to 125dB sound levels to capture the loudest concerts and instruments without distortion.

Podcast Microphone for the iPod
It gives you the same quality recording as the well known TASCAM DR07. The cost of a high quality digital recorder ranges in price from $80 to several hundred dollars. If you already have an iPhone you can get the iM2 for a fraction of the price.

There is a wide selection of apps available in the iOS app store for recording audio. My favorite app for podcasting is BossJock Studio which gives you a full featured recording studio on your iOS device. You can play intros and outros, transitional sound effects, stingers and voicemail feedback on the fly as you record your show. After your done recording you can upload it straight to your Libsyn account, SoundCloud or Dropbox.

A one stop shop for mobile podcasting. No mixer required. And with the Tascam iM2 you can record high quality audio. The TASCAM iM2 is a portable accessory for iOS devices. It is compatible with the iPhone 3 G iPhone 4, iPhone 4S,  and older iPods and iPads.

The TASCAM iM2 is a condensor microphone which does capture a lot of the background noise. For home studio podcast recording dynamic microphones are a more ideal option. But as a field recorder or a sound seeing tour it is a great option.
