Show 139
We are all wearing party hats because it is Margaret’s birthday!!! Happy Birthday, Margaret!!! Margaret wants to know why Paul the Rock God isn’t singing Happy Birthday for her? Paul said he doesn’t have the words in front of him because he is a Karaoke singer.
Andrew found some cool software called Contest Domination which allows you to set up and manage online contests. So we are going to have a Bunker Contest coming soon… we talk about what kind of contest would be cool for Bunker listeners.
Prizes for the best Contest Suggestion: Budha Board and Vitamin B1 patches.
Round Table Intros:
Round Table Intro Question: Name, Twitter Handle and What would be a good contest for Bunker Project fans?
• Bob said the digression drinking game is a good example or the best Social Media tip.
• Andrew said a good contest needs a good prize so we need a sponsor for the contest… Samsung? Lenovo? Microsoft?
• Ian suggests the most black beer consumed would be a good contest. Or best blooper on the show.
• Randall said the person with the biggest Social Media fail should win.
• Sanj isn’t a black beer guy so he thinks the game should involve tequila shots.
• Bonnie said the best game is Angry Birds.
• Bob said laughing gas should be involved.
• Margaret said people could bet how many F-Bombs are dropped in a show and the closest one wins.
• Bob said best tech tip… Bonnie said that’s boring.
• Paul said using social media to get a celebrity to mention The Bunker Project is a good contest.
• Andrew said Jeff O’Neil from CFOX should come on the show.
Andrew’s big announcement
Mateo (Andrew’s son) is going to be a brother…. Andrew explains how at the ultrasound he noticed something weird and it turns out that there are two babies. OMG TWINS…
It looks like they might be identical too… two boys or two girls.
Andrew was thinking about getting the Ford Focus ST but it is out now… Ian recommends the Mazda 5.
Ken suggests a “name the babies” contest for the Bunker Project. Andrew said Martini and Daquari works… Margaret said Belini is better. Or Baggette and Brie.
Andrew said they hoping they are boys because he doesn’t want to buy a shotgun… and they already have the toys for boys. Margaret said why can’t girls play with those toys.
A home birth is out of the question this time. Mateo was born at home.
Bob tells the story about being in Thailand when his first daughter was born. He came back from an art show totally pissed and his wife’s water broke. He took her to the hospital and Bob had a great time watching the C-Section. And then the second time he was even drunker… he said hey Doc, I’ve done this before… give me the knife… there is still a mark from the last time!
Linked In Terms of Service Changes:
Ian talks about the new changes to the Linked In user agreement.
They are trying to cut back on third-party posting on Linked In. And also an inappropriate use of the headline. Andrew asks if this would effect Buffer and posting to Linked In using services like that.
Ian recommends smaller emails to smaller groups of people and makes it personalized. It is against their terms of service and doesn’t work because nobody likes being spammed. Don’t waste your time with blanket emails.
Linked In Portfolio:
Don’t just say it, Display it.
Ian said there is a lot of video options in Linked In now. The Portfolio changes allow you to add rich media throughout your Linked In profile. It will appeal to artists and photographers so they can display their work.
Ken asks a question about Linked In Premium. He is wondering if Linked In is relaxing the rules and allowing more access to premium features on free accounts.
We talk about the future of Linked In and how it will be the next Social Media Darling.
Bob asks if we trashed Social Media training too much last week?
Social Media is Bullshit author BJ Mendelson comments on Uncensored Social Underground.
Social Media is Bullshit
Bonnie is shocked by BJ Mendelson’s comment about Brian Solis having no credibility.
Bob tells Bonnie he has a copy of Social Media is Bullshit and he’ll lend it to her because it could be a misinterpretation of a misinterpretation.
Andrew invited him on the show and is going to read the book to see where he is coming from.
Quote of the night: We don’t need no stinking smartphones, we have microphones! – Bob Garlick
Bonnie tells us about her Linked In experience. Someone commented on her status with “Who Cares?”. She sent him an email and she said that she thought his account was hacked because she got inappropriate comments on her content. He said he wasn’t hacked but his assistant has access to his account and made those remarks.
Ian said that some users on LinkedIn think they are on Facebook and don’t realize that different rules of conduct apply on LinkedIn.
